Enduringly inspired by the dynamic ebbs and flows of nature, I formally embarked some time ago on an art making journey, and completed a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD Art) in 2019.

Perhaps, because I initially trained as a general nurse, midwife and operating theatre nursing science practitioner, I came readily to understanding how imagery of flows, fractures, perforations, stitches etc. etc. constitute metaphors in the works I create. In my latest series of works (developed during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown) I revisit some of the ostensibly feminine metaphors explored during my research, not only to reify my understanding of nature as continuum, but to consciously create beauty during a time of global travail.

Entitled ‘Botanical translations’, I achieve the imagery, by imprinting botanic material directly onto paper before imaginatively developing each image into a composition – which is then reproduce onto Hahnemuhle William Turner 100% Cotton Fine Art paper. Once reproduced, the image is hand highlighted and/or stitched and signed.
