Career highlights on my art journey
1993
I began exhibiting artworks
2002
poetry selected and published in the book entitled, ‘Weaving the fabric’, a Gothenburg/Port Elizabeth partnership.
2004
awarded the Presidents cup for, ‘Most promising artist’ at the Artec Annual Exhibition.
2005
completed a B.A. Visual Art Degree through the University of South Africa (Unisa).
2006
solo exhibition of artworks at Cuyler Street Gallery, Port Elizabeth, South Africa
2009
invited to adjudicate on the selection panel for the ARTEC annual exhibition.
2010
completed a Master’s Degree in Fine Art at the Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth – graduating Cum Laude. In the same year, I presented work for an exhibition entitled “Land: Unity and Diversity” initiated between Hyberabad in India, the Pretoria Arts Association and SANAVA (South African National Association of Visual Arts) to commemorate 150 years of cultural exchange between India and South Africa
2010/11
artwork, entitled ‘Earthborne’ selected for the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum Biennale.
Work also selected for the Nelson Mandela University exhibition at the Ron Belling Gallery in Port Elizabeth
2011
artwork included in the book ‘208 Eastern Cape artists’.
sojourned for two months to the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France
2012
registered for the D.Litt. et Phil (PhD Art) qualification at UNISA. Invited to participate in the ‘Easter Cathedral’ exhibition at the ARTEC gallery,
the ‘Large Works’ exhibition at the Athenaeum,
and the ‘Treasures’ exhibition,
as well as ‘Vessels’ exhibitions at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum.
2013
exhibited on ‘Who’s Who and What’s New’ exhibition at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum and various other exhibitions in Port Elizabeth.
2014
participated in the ‘Seed Collective’, a group exhibition at the Grahamstown (Makanda) festival. The exhibition was re-presented at the ARTEC gallery in Port Elizabeth following the Makanda festival.
work selected for the ‘Wish you were here’ exhibition at the Athenaeum – a Mandela Development Agency project.
Selected as an artist to participate in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum Biennale in Port Elizabeth.
2018
Digital version of Dust from Dust: Microorganisms and other tales. An Artists diary exhibited as part of the Mixed Realities exhibition at the Albert van Abbehuis Art and Science Salon in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
2019
Submitted final thesis of my art research journey, entitled ‘A visual interpretation of consciousness as a continuous biological process of self-organization and embodiment. The practical outcome of my creative practice-as-research undertaking entitled ‘Dust from dust: Microorganisms and other tales. An artist’s diary’, was exhibited at the UNISA Gallery in Pretoria in 2018. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD Art) conferred in absentia in 2020 due to the Covid-19 virus.
New works
My home, Le Fisherman’s Bed and Breakfast in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, has a small art gallery where viewing of artworks is allowed strictly by appointment. My art forms part of private collections both nationally and internationally, including the United States of America, Asia, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
